NEBDAC joins the Massachusetts Patient Access and Safety Coalition to advocate for prohibitions on non-medical switching.

NEBDAC has joined with the Massachusetts Patient Access and Safety Coalition to support legislation that prohibits non-medical switching. Non-medical switching is when health plans try to push medication changes on patients for reasons other than the patient’s medical needs (usually to save money). However, non-medical switching doesn’t save the insurance companies money in the long run. Patients who are forced to switch medications can experience significant side effects, require additional physician care, sometimes emergency room visits, or even hospital stays. When a patient’s medications are switched, care is interrupted, and as a result, unexpected healthcare costs soon follow.
